Black Stars goalkeepers’ coach Richard Kingson, has leaped to the defense of goalkeeper Joseph Luke Wollacott.
The Swindon Town netminder who made his Ghana debut in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Zimbabwe in October last year, was Ghana’s number goalkeeper at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon as the team recorded its worst performance at the AFCON.
Wollacott finished the tournament as one of the poor goalkeepers, failing to keep a clean sheet after saving only 44% of the shots that were directed at him and completing just 39% of his passes accurately.
His uninspiring performance has since attracted massive backlashed from Ghanaian football fantatics. However, Kingston who scouted the England-based goalie, has jumped to his defense, saying none of the goals he conceded during the tournament were his fault.
“Personally I know Jojo Wollacott is a very good goalkeeper and I can also throw a question to the public that they should watch the matches very well and they will realize that he did not make any mistake in all the three goals he conceded,” the former Blackpool goalkeeper told Kumasi-based Precise FM.
He added that: “The public also have their opinion and nothing to challenge about so we are just moving forward and hope for the best,”.
Jojo Wollacott, 25, has played twenty-six game for Swindon Town this season in the English Sky Bet League Two.
