As in 2018, the South African national team qualified for the final of the Women’s African Cup of Nations on Monday in Casablanca, beating Zambia 1-0 in the semi-finals of CAN 2022 thanks to a penalty in stoppage time.
They did it again! The Banyana Banyana will play in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations this year as in 2018. The flag team of South Africa validated their ticket on Monday by defeating Zambia in the semi-finals (1- 0).
The South Africans lost to Nigeria in the 2018 final in Accra.
A foul on Jermaine Seoposenwe allowed Linda Motlhalo to make the difference by scoring the game’s only goal from the penalty spot in the dying minutes of added time (1-0, 90th + 4). Before that, Zambia had managed to make South Africans doubt.
“I have to take my hat off to Zambia,” said South African coach Desiree Ellis.
They gave us as much trouble as we gave them. We knew it would be a tough game. We know each other so well… We knew that one action could be a game-changer. We told ourselves that if we didn’t concede a goal, we would score one. And we succeeded”.
The South Africans will face Morocco on July 23 for the grande finale.
