Assistant coach of the Black Stars George Boateng has revealed Ghana didn’t have luck on their side during the defeat to Uruguay at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to the South Americans in their last group game at the tournament to end their hopes of advancing to the knockout phase of the competition.
Needing just a draw to qualify from Group H, the Black Stars were presented with a penalty in the first half which was missed by Andre Ayew but Uruguay struck two quick goals making the task a difficult one for Ghana.
Assessing the clash, Boateng says the Black Stars were unlucky not to have gotten anything from the game as it would have changed their stance.
“In the last game against Uruguay, it could have been a lot better for us had only luck gone our way,” he said in a video shared on his Instagram page.
Boateng is currently staying on as he deputy coach despite the resignation after Otto Addo as head coach immediately after Ghana’s exit from the Mundial.
