Price tag of Antoine Semenyo emerges as AFC Bournemouth intensify effort to sign him from Bristol City

AFC Bournemouth could potentially secure the services of Bristol City forward Antoine Semenyo this month if they are willing to fork out a £12m fee, according to yesterday evening’s update from Alan Nixon.

The 22-year-old has 18 months left on his current deal at Ashton Gate and with that, the Robins could potentially be willing to sell him during this window to avoid the possibility of losing him for free in 2024.

With £8m signing Han-Noah Massengo set to leave for free in the summer, they will be particularly wary about keeping hold of valuable players for too long with Alex Scott potentially another player that could move on this month.

On Monday 2nd January, 2023, TEAMtalk reported that Bournemouth had entered negotiations for both Semenyo and Scott after previously being linked with the duo, dealing Nigel Pearson’s side a blow with the pair likely to be key players under the former Leicester City boss between now and the end of the season if they stay put.

However, Bristol Live believe Ghana international Semenyo isn’t at the top of their target list at this point with alternative players higher up their transfer agenda.

If they change their mind though, a £12m offer could be enough to see the 22-year-old make the switch to the south coast.

The Verdict:

Considering Semenyo has only recorded four goals in 21 league appearances this season, you can understand why he may not be at the top of Bournemouth’s target list at this stage.

However, the Cherries have shown in the past that they are willing to take a risk on Championship players with Marcus Tavernier coming in from Middlesbrough during the previous transfer window.

And that’s why a move for Semenyo can’t be ruled out, though there may be better options for the south-coast outfit at this point if they wanted to take another look at the EFL market.

Viktor Gyokeres is definitely someone to keep an eye on because he has been exceptional for Coventry City this season – and they could always reignite their interest in Ben Brereton-Diaz if they wanted to.

At 22 and with experience under his belt for club and country, Bournemouth could benefit from making an offer for the Bristol City man considering how effective he was in the final third during the previous campaign.
