Joseph Paintsil, the in-form winger of the Black Stars, has revealed that head coach Chris Hughton is committed to constructing a Black Stars team capable of winning titles.
After Otto Addo’s departure following the 2022 World Cup, the former Newcastle United manager signed a 21-month contract as head coach of the Black Stars in March. Hughton led Ghana to secure four crucial points in their doubleheader against Angola, which helped them qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Paintsil, who played an important role in the AFCON qualifiers, praised the veteran coach’s skills and revealed that Hughton’s ultimate aim is to transform the team into a championship-winning squad.
“He [Chris Hughton] is a very good coach,” Paintsil said. “I hope that he helps us in terms of growing as a team. He intends to build us to win trophies in the future,” he added, according to Footballghana.
Prior to his appointment as coach, Hughton was the Black Stars’ technical advisor, and he played a critical role in their qualification for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Nonetheless, the Black Stars have not won a major title since winning the AFCON championship in 1982.
Paintsil, who has recorded the most goal contributions of any African player in Europe, with 30, has scored 16 goals and provided 14 assists in 35 games.
