Osman Zakaria has issued a sincere apology after his penalty miss during the DOL zone 1 play-off match against Bofoakwa Tano. The miss denied Techiman Eleven Wonders a golden opportunity to secure promotion to the top-flight league.
Zakaria expressed his remorse and extended his apology to the fans of Eleven Wonders, the people of Techiman, and the entire Bono East Region for his costly error. He emphasized that he would never intentionally miss a penalty, especially one as crucial as this. He acknowledged that missing penalties is not a common occurrence for him.
Addressing the speculation about his unusual run-up before the penalty kick, Zakaria explained that it is his trademark style. Despite receiving consolation and supportive words from his teammates, including a former Medeama player, he admitted that his broken heart prevented him from fully comprehending their words of encouragement.
Zakaria also clarified that the rumors circulating about his wife or girlfriend being attacked are unfounded, as he does not have a girlfriend in Techiman. He emphasized that his sole purpose in Techiman is to play football. He appealed to the fans for patience as the team regroups and promises to strive for promotion to the premier league in the upcoming season.
Concluding his apology during an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma 89.5 FM, Zakaria reiterated his deep remorse and pleaded for the forgiveness of the fans, acknowledging the pain his miss had caused them.
“I will never deliberately miss a penalty not to talk of an important one like this, I am appealing to the fans of eleven wonders, the people of Techiman and the whole Bono East Region to forgive me, I don’t remember the last time I missed a penalty.” – he said
“For those asking why I moved a distance away the ball before it was kicked, It is my trade mark. After missing the penalty I was consoled by my teammates especially our senior player who is a former Medeama player. He said a lot to me but sincerely I could not hear any of the words he was saying because my heart was broken.”
“To the speculations going round that my wife or girlfriend has been attacked, I have no girlfriend at Techiman because my motive here is to play football. I will appeal to the fans to be patient with the team as we promise to gain promotion into the premier league next season.” He added
“Once again, I’m deeply sorry, I know it’s very painful but they should forgive me wholeheartedly.” He concluded in an interview with Kumasi Based Akoma 89.5 FM.
Osman Zakaria and Eleven Wonders will now regather and prepare for the next season of the DOL, aiming for qualification and another chance at promotion.
