Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana made a memorable impact in Southampton’s 4-4 draw against Liverpool last Sunday at St. Mary’s, scoring his first and second Premier League goals for the club.

Playing in a more central role, Kamaldeen delivered an impressive performance for the Saints, who are currently battling against relegation.

The game started off with a gift to Liverpool as the Saints’ defense allowed Diogo Jota to score. Roberto Firmino added another goal for Liverpool just four minutes later. However, this seemed to ignite Southampton, who responded strongly, leveling the score at 2-2. Kamaldeen Sulemana then scored his second goal of the match, and Adam Armstrong added a fourth for Southampton.

The Saints’ performance was a pleasant surprise for their fans, who witnessed their forwards converting their chances effectively. It was a much-needed boost for the team.

Although Liverpool eventually equalized, the focus was largely on two players bidding farewell. James Milner captained the team in his record-equalling 16th Premier League final-day appearance, while Firmino made his 362nd appearance for the club. Both players are beloved by the supporters, having contributed significantly to the club’s success since joining in 2015. Their trophy cabinet includes the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.

For Southampton fans, the discussions before the match revolved around their prospects in the second tier and their ability to make an immediate return to the Premier League.

Conceding two goals within 15 minutes was not an ideal start for Southampton. Jota and Firmino found the back of the net for Liverpool, displaying their individual quality. However, Southampton quickly responded with James Ward-Prowse scoring within five minutes. Kamaldeen Sulemana then leveled the score, beating Joe Gomez and finding the net despite a deflection off the goalkeeper.

Early in the second half, Sulemana struck again, completing his brace. Embarking on a solo run from before the halfway line, he evaded the Liverpool midfield and defense to score a brilliant goal. Mo Salah had a chance to immediately equalize, but his shot hit the keeper.

Southampton extended their lead when Jordan Henderson made an uncharacteristic mistake, allowing Adam Armstrong to capitalize and score. Liverpool fought back, with Cody Gakpo and Jota securing a 4-4 draw. Salah came close to giving Liverpool the lead, but his chip hit the post.

Kamaldeen Sulemana’s outstanding performance can be witnessed in the highlights below.
