Guinea’s head coach, Camara Sekouba, is determined to steer his team away from humiliation as they prepare for the second leg of their 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Ghana.

Having suffered a 0-3 defeat in the first encounter in Conakry, Guinea is facing an uphill battle to secure a spot in Paris. Despite the challenging situation, the team has been training hard, holding their final session on Monday afternoon at the Accra Sports Stadium in preparation for the crucial match.

Sekouba acknowledged the difficulty of overturning the tie but emphasized that the team will play with pride and determination. He expressed the need for a ‘remontada,’ requiring them to score three goals against the superior Ghanaian team.

With a relatively young team comprising players around the age of 20, the coach recognizes the tough task ahead. Nevertheless, the team is committed to giving their best and qualifying for the next stage, holding onto the hope and faith that they can achieve it.

“Tomorrow’s match won’t be an easy one. We conceded three goals in the first leg and personally, I think we need to do a ‘remontada.’ We need to score three times but it will not be easy against a superior Ghanaian team,” he said.

We are players who are just about 20 years and so, it will be difficult. We will try our best to overturn to the score so we qualify. Insha Allah.

“Let’s not forget that we are not here to take in the sights. There is pride and honour on the line. Tomorrow, the players will do their best and make sure they will leave the pitch with their heads held high.”

The second leg of this crucial encounter will take place at the Accra Sports Stadium with the kickoff scheduled for 16:00 GMT.

Guinea will be looking to put up a spirited performance and turn the tide in their favor to keep their Olympic dream alive.
