“Dr Kwame Kyei bought the Abrankese Stadium to serve the interest of Kotoko and not Nations FC” – Nana Coker

Asante Kotoko General Manager Nana Akwesi Gyambibi, popularly known as ‘Coker,’ has provided clarification regarding the ownership of Nations FC.

Contrary to rumors, Dr. Kwame Kyei, the former Executive Board Chairman of Asante Kotoko, is not the owner of Nations FC. Instead, the club belongs to his two children.

Nations FC is a newly-promoted Ghana Premier League side that earned its spot in the top-flight after a successful campaign in Zone II of the national first division league last season.

Though there have been speculations in the local media about Dr. Kwame Kyei possibly returning to Asante Kotoko, Nana Gyambibi Coker, who has had a close association with the business mogul, has clarified that Nations FC is not under Dr. Kwame Kyei’s ownership.

The club is, in fact, solely owned and controlled by his two children. Dr. Kwame Kyei’s Abrankese Stadium has been adopted by Nations FC, but the stadium is the personal property of the Kyei family.

It has been widely believed among football enthusiasts in the country that the formation of the new club was connected to Dr. Kwame Kyei’s departure from his position at Kotoko. However, Nana Gyambibi Coker’s statement puts an end to those speculations, confirming the ownership structure of Nations FC.

“Let me use this occasion to clear this wrong impression on the actual owner of Nations Football Club, Nations FC is not for Dr Kyei but rather for his two children, the stadium (Dr Kyei Complex) is his personal property. The main reason he bought and renovated the stadium was to serve the interest of Kotoko.”

Furthermore, there are reports suggesting that ace journalist Frederick Acheampong could be appointed as the new Kotoko Chief Executive Officer if Dr. Kwame Kyei is re-appointed to the new board.
