The Ghanaian national women’s football team, known as the Black Queens of Ghana, will face Benin in the second round of the African qualifiers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in October.

This comes after an impressive performance in the past week, where the Queens secured a resounding 7-0 aggregate victory over Guinea. In the first leg, they defeated their West African neighbors 3-0 in Conakry, and then at the Accra Stadium last Tuesday, they dominated with a 4-0 victory to complete the demolition.

The qualification for the Black Queens was sealed with goals from Avaldsnes FC’s prolific midfielder, Evelyn Badu, who netted twice, along with Doris Boaduwaa and Princella Adubea, each contributing a goal.

Right from the start of the match, the Ghanaian team displayed their attacking prowess, constantly searching for goals. However, they had to wait until just before half-time when Evelyn Badu’s emphatic strike confirmed their superiority.

Throughout the game, Ghana controlled possession and created numerous chances. The Guinean team had to endure significant pressure from players like Doris Boaduwaa, Vivian Adjei Konadu, Princella Adubea, and Grace Asantewaa. The only factor preventing a more substantial victory was the excellent performance of Guinea’s goalkeeper, Mawa Traore, who made several brilliant saves.

After the match, Coach Nora Häuptle expressed her satisfaction with the team’s performance, particularly in comparison to the first leg in Guinea. She acknowledged the improved pitch conditions and praised the team’s possession of the ball. However, she also mentioned that they could have converted more of their chances into goals. Overall, she was pleased that they successfully passed the first qualification round.
