GFA Elections: “I will urge other aspirants to step aside and help Kurt Okraku for another term” – Central Region FA capo

Robert Otieku Duncan, Chairman of the Central Regional Football Association, has publicly expressed his endorsement for Kurt Okraku’s re-election as GFA President for a second term.

Duncan’s support stems from his belief that Okraku, a University of Liverpool alumnus, successfully revitalized Ghanaian football’s reputation in the aftermath of the Anas Aremeyaw Anas “Number 12” exposé video, which had brought the sport to a standstill.

Duncan contends that Okraku’s true impact can be better gauged over a second term, during which he can continue his leadership in Ghana football. He emphasized that when the Anas video surfaced, the football landscape was in disarray, and Okraku’s administration has managed to make significant improvements.

“A lot of people have been asking me about the performance of Kurt [Okraku] and whether I would want him to continue as GFA President. All the time, I keep responding that I will speak about it at the appropriate time and I think now is the time. I will say that in my own personal view he [Kurt Okraku] needs to continue”, Robert Otieku Duncan said.

Duncan evaluated Okraku’s performance and his administration at eighty-five percent and urged potential challengers to withdraw their aspirations, allowing Okraku to run unopposed in the upcoming GFA elections. He expressed his hope that Okraku would be granted another term to consolidate and further stabilize Ghanaian football, given that his current tenure of two and a half years has been relatively short.

“When Anas video came, things were not functioning properly and I will say he has done well and we all have to come together as football people and and help him and his administration. If we give him another term , then we will be able to assess and scrutinize him properly, he has spent only two and half years at office and needs more time to stabilize our football”, he added.

“I will urge other aspirants to step aside and help him [Kurt Okraku] for another term. In his two and half years, I will score his administration eighty-five percent.”

The Ghana Football Association’s elections committee has also unveiled the roadmap and guidelines for the upcoming elections. Notably, presidential aspirants are required to pay Gh¢50,000 for nomination forms.

The 2023 GFA Presidential seat contest will feature strong competition, with former GFA Vice President George Afriyie and former Western Regional Football Association chairman Kojo Yankah both declaring their intentions to vie for the position alongside Kurt Okraku.
