Former Black Stars defender Jerry Akaminko has decided against retirement, despite his period of inactivity in the sport.
Akaminko has not been involved in active play since departing from Indonesian club Persik Kediri in 2020.
During an interview with Angle FM’s Saddick Adams, Akaminko revealed that he is in a state of semi-retirement as he explores other endeavors.
“I haven’t fully retired from football; it’s more of a semi-retirement. I’ve been engaging in various activities that have kept me from training. I haven’t completely stopped playing, and I can’t walk away from the game at this point, but I’m just not currently active.”
At 35 years old, the defender earned 10 caps for the Black Stars after making his debut in 2012.
He featured for Heart of Lions in the Ghana Premier League before pursuing opportunities abroad, where he primarily played in Turkey throughout his career.
Akaminko had stints with Orduspor, Manisaspor, Eskişehirspor, and İstanbulspor in Turkey before venturing to Indonesia in 2020.
Notably, Jeremiah Akaminko played a pivotal role in Ghana’s qualification campaign for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. Unfortunately, a few days prior to the tournament, he suffered an injury that resulted in his omission from the final squad.
