Leicester City ‘line up’ transfer for Ghanaian forward Fatawu Issahaku

Leicester City is reportedly showing significant interest in securing the services of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, the winger from Sporting Clube de Portugal.

The club is considering a loan agreement as part of their strategy to reinforce their attacking options on the flanks. With just a little over a week left in the transfer window, City is actively seeking to bolster their squad.

In the initial matches of the season, City has relied on academy graduates Kasey McAteer and Wanya Marcal-Madivadua, alongside new signing Stephy Mavididi, who has been playing on the left.

As reported by the Daily Mail, City has now turned its attention to Abdul Fatawu Issahaku as a potential addition. The 19-year-old winger is not in Sporting’s plans for the current season, making him a plausible candidate for a loan deal that might also include an option to make the transfer permanent.

Notably, the Ghanaian international made appearances for Sporting in the Champions League last season. He started in the 2-0 match against Marseille and came on as a second-half substitute in the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur. Additionally, he was a late substitute in the 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Europa League.

Sporting reportedly values the young talent at £12 million, a price point that could be included as an option in any potential deal. Issahaku made his move to Portugal from Ghanian side Steadfast FC in 2022, amid interest from various Premier League sides.

In a notable mention, Fatawu Issahaku was part of the Ghana squad during the World Cup, sharing the stage with former City player Daniel Amartey. The winger made a cameo appearance in the final group game of the tournament against Uruguay.

Furthermore, Issahaku is not the sole right winger linked to City as the transfer window enters its final days. Turkish reports indicate that a deal for Yunus Akgun might be in the works. Alongside this, City has been associated with interest in Crystal Palace’s Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.
