Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana found himself shown a straight red card in the dying moments of the match as his Southampton side suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to Leicester City in the Championship.
This marked Sulemana’s first appearance for the Saints in the current season after dealing with an injury at the outset of the campaign. He entered the game during the second half and appeared to inject some much-needed pace into Southampton’s play, but his involvement was cut short by the red card.
Leicester City got off to an ideal start when Jamie Vardy executed a skillful pass exchange with Stephy Mavididi, surprising the St. Mary’s crowd with a composed side-foot finish.
Kasey McAteer extended the Foxes’ lead to two goals after just 18 minutes, capitalizing on a brilliant through ball from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Despite a defensive lapse allowing Sam Edozie to secure a response for Southampton, Wilfred Ndidi ensured Leicester went into halftime with a 3-1 advantage.
The outstanding Mavididi embarked on a remarkable solo run from deep within his own half, adding a fourth goal against a Southampton side that had beaten the Foxes twice in the previous season. This Premier League campaign concluded with both teams facing relegation.
