“Ghana is a very good option but let’s wait and see” – Hudson-Odoi

Nottingham Forest’s recent signing, Callum Hudson-Odoi, has discussed the possibility of switching his nationality to represent Ghana at the senior national team level.

Although he was born in England to Ghanaian parents, Hudson-Odoi has provided an update on his international future amid interest from Ghana.

In the lead-up to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, there were considerations for Hudson-Odoi and other Ghanaian players born in Europe to switch their international allegiance to play for the Black Stars. However, only Inaki Williams, the Athletic Bilbao centre-forward, made such a decision to represent Ghana.

Hudson-Odoi shared his thoughts with The Telegraph, saying, “That decision hasn’t been made yet. I’m still thinking it over.

“Ghana is a very good option but let’s wait and see. Hopefully once I start playing games here, maybe Gareth [Southgate] or Ghana will come.”

“It’s a nice position to be in and hopefully sooner or later we will know. “It’s a nice position to be in, and hopefully, sooner or later, we will know.”

Hudson-Odoi has represented England at various youth age levels and was part of the Under-17 team that won the World Cup six years ago. He has been called up to the England senior team three times, all in 2019, and has not been part of the international setup since then.

According to FIFA rules, the 22-year-old is still eligible to switch allegiance due to his age and having not played in more than three competitive fixtures for England. He qualifies to represent Ghana through his parents and could potentially wear the Black Stars’ shirt in the future.
