Heart of Lions, making their return to the Ghana Premier League, had to settle for a frustrating 0-0 draw against Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday night.
Head coach Fatawu Salifu, who worked his way up to guide the team back to the topflight after an eight-year absence, expressed his disappointment with the numerous missed chances his team had against Kum-Apem.
Lions had several close opportunities to score, with Mustapha Yakubu wearing the number 10 shirt and even finding the net from a rebound, but it was surprisingly disallowed for offside by the assistant referee.
Salifu shared his thoughts after the match, saying, “Well, I will say this is part of the game. Sometimes you play well; you create chances; you don’t get to use your chances especially, first game like this mostly looks very tough. So, of course, I would say it’s not, it’s just hard luck. It’s not inexperience,” Salifu told StarTimes after the match.
Heart of Lions will now prepare to host Great Olympics in Sogakope for their matchday-two fixture on Friday, September 22, 2023.
