“Even Black Stars lack strikers to score goals” – Hearts of Oak coach Koopman on club’s goalscoring woes

Hearts of Oak manager, Martin Koopman, has referred to the club’s goal-scoring issue as a ‘national concern’ following their goalless draw against FC Samartex on Saturday, October 21, 2023.

The Phobians once again failed to find the net as FC Samartex held them to a goalless draw during week six of the Ghana Premier League at the Accra Sports Stadium.

This goalless result means that Hearts of Oak have now played five matches in the Ghana Premier League this season, scoring just a single goal.

In addressing the team’s struggles with scoring goals after the FC Samartex match, Martin Koopman suggested that the problem goes beyond the club and extends to Ghana as a whole, emphasizing a lack of quality strikers.

He stated, “I’m not the problem here; it’s a national concern. Even the Black Stars lack wingers and strikers who can score goals. Ghanaian players tend to hold onto the ball for too long, and they need to develop.” Koopman added.

Hearts of Oak currently occupy the 12th position on the Ghana Premier League table with five points from five games.
