Samir Nurkovic’s 34th-minute strike at the Stade Mohammed V gave Kaizer Chiefs a commanding 1-0 lead in the first leg of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League semi-finals. The second leg ended 0-0 as Kaizer Chiefs won 1-0 on aggregate to secure a place in the finals in which they were destroyed by Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly 3-0 at the Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.

That was the last time Wydad lost a game at home in either the group stages of the CCL or the Knock phase.

After that 1-0 defeat in almost 2 and a half years,  Wydad has won seven games and drawn three at home.

At the Grand Stadium of Marrakech, Wydad surprisingly lost 1-0 to minnows Jwaneng Galaxy of Botswana.

31-year-old Motswana international, Thabang Sesinyi capitalized on an inaccurate back pass meant for the keeper, El Motie from Haimoud Abdallah and exquisitely chipped the ball over the helpless Youssef El Motie. That was the winner as Jwanneng Galaxy shocked every football fan on the continent.

In their second-ever appearance in the money zone, this victory was Morena Ramoreboli’s sides’ first win in the money zone of the competition.

Adil Ramzi, 43, paraded all his best players as Yaya Jabrane and Abdallah played in front of the usual back four of Attiyat Allah, Farhane, Harkass and El Amloud. Bouseffiane, Draoui, and Lahtimi served as playmakers for El Bahri who led the attack.

Probably one of the most shocking results ever in the Group stage of the prestigious CCL since its inception in 1997.

This is how the stats read after the game; 22 goal attempts to 4, 9 shots on goal to 2,10 shots of goal to 2 and 12 corner kicks to 1, all in favour of Wydad Athletic Club.

With 20 odds solidly behind Jwaneng Galaxy, they defied every odds and won against one of the most difficult teams to beat at home albeit, it was away from the famous Stade Mohammed V in Casablanca.

This famous win at the Grand Stadium of Marrakech will remain the best in Jwaneng Galaxys history for decades to come.
