CAF Confederation Cup:  Rivers United, Sagrada and Zamalek record home wins as Stade Malien wins 3-1 in Congo

Rivers United 3-0 Academica

Former King Faisal midfielder Samuel Antwi opened the score in the 3rd minute for Rivers United as they thrashed Angolan side Academica by 3-0. Two second-half goals from Odeh Paul and  Asiegbu Shedrack were enough to clinch all three points for the Nigerians in an emphatic win.

Sagrada 1-0 SOAR

Sagrada of Angola won 2-0 against SOAR of Guinea with Lepua and Luis Tati scoring the goals for the Angolans in the 35th and 75th minutes respectively.

Zamalek 1-0 Abu Salim

Zamalek recorded a slim 1-0 win over their fellow North Africans, Abu Salim of Libya as Youssef Obama’s 73rd-minute goal consigned the Libyans to defeat in Cairo.

Diables Noir 1-3 Stade Malien

Stade Malien is the only away team to record a win so far in the opening weekend of the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup. The Maliens won 3-1 in Congo against Diable Noirs as three first-half goals from Amadou Traore,  Yoro Diaby and Yakubu Issah gave them a comfortable lead. The home side pulled one back through Nkolo’s 69th-minute penalty.
