Asante Kotoko’s forward, Steven Desse Mukwala, couldn’t contain his excitement following his instrumental role in securing victory against Hearts of Oak during the highly anticipated Super Clash on Sunday.
The clash between these two prestigious clubs unfolded at the Baba Yara Stadium during the 14th week of the Ghana Premier League, adding an extra layer of intensity to an already fiercely competitive season.
Despite playing as the away team, Kotoko managed to prevail in this thrilling encounter. The early stages of the match saw Hearts of Oak taking the lead with a goal from Linda Mtange. However, Isaac Oppong leveled the score just before the halftime whistle, setting the stage for a captivating second half.
Ugandan forward, Steven Mukwala, emerged as the hero for Kotoko, delivering a stellar performance in the second half. His remarkable brace contributed significantly to sealing the victory for his team. Although Martin Karikari managed to reduce the deficit for the Phobians in the final minutes, it wasn’t enough to alter the course of the match.
Reflecting on his outstanding performance, Mukwala expressed his elation, describing the experience of scoring in a derby as a “great feeling.” In a post-match statement, he emphasized the significance of securing the win in a derby, acknowledging that the manner of scoring mattered less than claiming the three points that ultimately delighted the passionate fans.
The Super Clash lived up to its reputation, delivering not only thrilling moments but also underlining the importance of securing victory in one of the most highly anticipated fixtures in Ghanaian football.
