‘Ghana will struggle at AFCON 2023’ – Frimpong Manso

Former Ghanaian defender Frimpong Manso has voiced apprehensions regarding the Black Stars’ group stage fixtures in the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team is set to face tough opposition from Cape Verde, Egypt, and Mozambique in Group B, prompting Manso to express concerns about the potential struggles they might encounter in these matches.

Speaking in an interview with Kessben FM, Manso shared his thoughts, saying, “I think we will struggle a bit in the group stage, but I believe we will qualify to the next round. The next round is going to be very difficult because we are likely to face Ivory Coast or Nigeria, who are strong contenders in the competition.”

Manso emphasizes the importance of the team’s performance in the group stage as a critical factor in advancing to the knockout stages. He acknowledges the challenging nature of the tournament, especially if they face formidable opponents like Ivory Coast or Nigeria in the subsequent rounds.

“Indeed, that’s where our competition will begin. I remember in Angola 2010; we kept winning with a small margin which took us to the final stage of the competition. It’s not going to be easy for us, but I believe we will struggle in the group stage but we will qualify,” Manso explained.

Given Ghana’s recent performances in the AFCON, Manso’s concerns appear well-founded. The team has faced challenges in recent years, and the upcoming group stage fixtures present formidable opponents. However, Manso remains optimistic, emphasizing that with the right strategy and player selection, Ghana has the potential to overcome these challenges and make a deep run in the tournament.

In conclusion, Frimpong Manso’s concerns shed light on the formidable task ahead for the Black Stars in the 2023 AFCON. The group stage, featuring tough matchups, poses a significant hurdle, but Manso’s optimism regarding qualification underscores the potential for success with careful planning and execution on the field.
