The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Simeon-Okraku, exuded confidence and optimism regarding Ghana’s chances at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His words were delivered during a visit by Ghana’s Ambassador to Cote D’Ivoire, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling tournament in Abidjan.

President Simeon-Okraku, flanked by a team he referred to as “warriors,” expressed gratitude to the Ambassador for taking the time to meet with the players. He highlighted the sacrifices made by the team to reach this point, emphasizing the formidable challenges faced during the qualifying games. The journey alone, from various destinations, was hailed as a significant sacrifice, showcasing the unwavering commitment of the players and the technical staff.

“In front of you are your warriors. This is a group of players who have sacrificed a lot to have come to this level,” President Simeon-Okraku remarked. The qualification process, described as “very, very challenging,” has undoubtedly tested the mettle of the team. However, the president emphasized the immense commitment exhibited by both the players and the technical team in representing their country on the grand stage.

Ghana has been in pursuit of AFCON glory for over four decades, with the elusive trophy slipping through their grasp. Undeterred by the prolonged wait, President Simeon-Okraku declared, “Indeed, this glory has been evasive for over 40 years, but we are very much committed towards the cause.” He assured that the team is prepared to give “one million percent on the pitch” in their quest for victory.

The GFA president concluded his remarks with a hopeful message, invoking divine intervention. “Hopefully, the Almighty God will bless their big effort in this enterprise and bring us the joy and love we have all been looking for.” The sentiments echoed by President Simeon-Okraku reflect not just a desire for success on the field but a deep-rooted commitment to bringing joy and pride to the nation.

In closing, he extended gratitude on behalf of the entire team, acknowledging the support from the captain, leadership, head coach, and everyone involved. “We thank you for coming through, and we will be looking forward to seeing you at all the games, beginning Sunday, till we lift the trophy on the last day of the tournament,” President Simeon-Okraku added, setting the stage for what promises to be a memorable AFCON campaign for Ghana.
