English side Plymouth Argyle has secured the loan signing of Ghanaian central midfielder Darko Gyabi until the end of the season, marking a significant addition to their squad for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old, previously with Leeds United, arrived for a reported £5 million fee from Manchester City in 2022.
Head Coach Ian Foster, familiar with Gyabi from their collaboration during the 2023 FIFA Under-20 World Cup with England, expressed his enthusiasm about the acquisition. Foster highlighted Gyabi’s qualities, stating, “I have been aware of Darko’s qualities for a number of years after his performances as a young player in the England pathway.” He emphasized Gyabi’s ability to link play from midfield to attack, his athleticism, and his knack for arriving late into the box.
Foster further praised Gyabi’s character, describing him as a “lovely character and personality” who would integrate well within the team. Gyabi’s eagerness to join Argyle was evident, with Foster remarking, “He was so excited to join and couldn’t get down here quick enough. I am equally excited about seeing him in an Argyle shirt.”
Neil Dewsnip, the Director of Football, expressed his satisfaction with securing Gyabi as Argyle’s second signing of the window. Highlighting Gyabi’s talent, Dewsnip noted Leeds’ significant investment in him. He affirmed the club’s commitment to providing an environment where players can develop and thrive, stating, “This signing emphasizes that we have created an environment here where players can develop, flourish, and grow.”
Darko Gyabi’s arrival brings anticipation and optimism to Argyle, with the coaching staff confident in his abilities and potential contributions to the team’s success in the Championship.
