Rigobert Song- “Maybe when we find a team that seems to be serious, that’s where we try to be serious too”

Cameroonian head coach Rigobert Song has organised Nigeria ahead of the super clash on Saturday in Round 16 of the 2023 AFCON.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Indomitable Lions coach applauded the Super Eagles.

“It’s a very good team.  We know the Nigerian team very well, we have already met several times. It hasn’t always been easy, as we know”, said Song. The Indomitable Lion’s head coach, Song, knows how difficult it is to play against Nigeria.

“Look at the statistics! And today, I think they are a team to take seriously”. This is how the statistics read- Nigeria has won 12, Caneroon has won 5 and 8 have been drawn. Nigeria lost on penalties in CAN 2000 in Abuja to Cameroon in the finals which Song played the entire game. The last time the two teams met in the AFCON was in 2019 when Nigeria won 3-2 and eliminated the Indomitable Lions.

Rigobert Song reminded his boys of how Cameroon deliver whenever they meet a big team.

“Maybe when we find a team that seems to be serious, that’s where we try to be serious too”, said Song.

“What I know is that my players are ready, they know what they have to do and what it takes. Faris said it earlier, it’s a fateful goal. So today there are no more reservations to make.

“For us, it will be a very important match because we need a victory to continue the competition”, concluded Rigobert Song.

Cameroon early missed out on the knockout phase as they came from behind with 5 minutes from time to secure a 3-2 win over the Gambia to book a ticket.

The good news from Cameroon’s camp is the availability of Vincent Aboubakar.

Nigeria and Cameroon squares off in Abidjan on Saturday night at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny at 8 pm.
