French media giant L’equipe has reported that Zinedine Zidane has rejected the opportunity to become Algeria’s head coach.
Algeria was eliminated from the AFCON 2023 after losing the final game against Mauritania after drawing the first two games against Angola and Burkina Faso.
It was the second time in succession that the Fennec Foxes have exited the AFCON group Stage.
Head Coach Djamel Belmadi resigned after the embarrassment in Ivory Coast. Algeria is now searching for a new head coach and considered the former Real Madrid gaffer, Zidane, who has rejected the offer.
“Zinedine Zidane has been sounded out by the Algerian Football Federation to replace Djamel Belmadi as head coach.
“The ex-Real Madrid coach was flattered by the offer but refused it”, revealed L’equipe.
Zinedine Zidane, 51, was born in France to Algerian parents who are from Aguemoune in the region of Kabylie.
