Ghana fforward Caleb Ekuban has been named in the Italy Serie A Team-Of-The-Week.

The striker showcased his prowess with a standout performance, securing a decisive goal for Genoa in an exhilarating match against Lecce during matchweek 22 of the Italian Serie A.

Coming on as a substitute at the start of the second half, the 29-year-old made a notable impact as Genoa found themselves trailing 1-0 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. Ekuban’s contribution adds to his impressive record, tallying two goals and an assist in his 16 appearances in the Italian League this season.

Lecce took an early lead in the 31st minute, with Nikola Krstovic netting a right-footed shot from outside the box, assisted by Valentin Gendrey. Heading into halftime, Lecce held a 1-0 advantage.

The tides turned in the second half, with Mateo Retegui leveling the score in the 70th minute. A precise header from close range after a set-piece situation brought the score to an even 1-1.

The defining moment unfolded when Caleb Ekuban sealed the victory for Genoa in the 76th minute. A right-footed shot from the center of the box, assisted by Mateo Retegui’s headed pass, found the bottom right corner, securing a 2-1 triumph for Genoa.

Ekuban’s journey has been marked by ups and downs, with injuries impacting his performance last season. However, the Ghanaian forward is currently relishing a more positive and productive season, evident in his crucial contributions on the field.

As Genoa revels in this significant win, Ekuban’s resilience and goal-scoring prowess inject a bright spark into his ongoing campaign. Football enthusiasts are sure to keep a keen eye on Ekuban’s performances as he continues to leave a lasting impact in the competitive landscape of the Italian Serie A.
