Alexandre Song, former Arsenal skipper and Cameroonian midfielder has expressed his displeasure on Onana sitting on the bench for Fabrice Ondoa to be the number one goalkeeper for the Indomitable Lions.
“I have nothing against Ondoa but it is a very bad message that Cameroon is sending regarding its management. When we see Onana on the bench and Ondoa starting even if he also has qualities, it’s something that cannot be imagined and which has never existed”, said Alex Song.
The former midfielder for Cameroon lamented the poor management of the Cameroon national team. He expressed his disappointment to see Onana benched for Ondoa.
“This generation of Lions should also be allowed to express themselves freely and the veterans should understand that it is the turn of these new ones to shine”, added Song.
Alex Song urged the past generation to allow the current stars of the Indomitable to express their views on issues concerning the national team.
“They deserve their space because, in our time, we did not allow this interference from the elders and even in the time of those who run the football today, they did not allow that”, concluded Song.
Rumours say Samuel Eto’o interfered in Cameroon’s selection in the ongoing AFCON and Alex Song has pleaded with the leaders of the national team to put a halt to it.
Cameroon was beaten and eliminated by Nigeria in the Round 16 of the ongoing AFCON 2023. The Indomitable Lions endured a poor campaign in Ivory Coast.
