Medeama SC’s hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League were dashed after Young Africans secured a decisive victory over CD Belouizdad in Tanzania on Saturday.

The Ghanaian champions faced a critical situation as they awaited the outcome of the match between Young Africans and Belouizdad, having suffered a defeat to Al Ahly in their previous fixture. A draw in the Tanzanian encounter would have kept Medeama’s aspirations alive. However, Young Africans’ resounding victory ended any possibility of progression for Medeama.

Despite the setback, Medeama will approach their final group stage match in Algeria with determination, aiming to secure a respectable third-place finish after an impressive run in the CAF Champions League.

In a dominant display at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Young Africans took control of the game, with Yahia Abass opening the scoring just before halftime. The host extended their lead early in the second half through Stephane Aziz Ki, followed by goals from Kennedy Musonda and Joseph Gnadou, sealing a comprehensive victory.

Ghanaian forward Augustine Okrah entered the fray for Medeama in the second half, but his efforts were unable to alter the course of the match.

With Al Ahly and Young Africans securing the top two spots in the group, they progress to the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, leaving Medeama to reflect on their journey in the prestigious tournament.
