The race for supremacy in African club football has reached a pivotal stage as CAF announces the dates for the highly anticipated finals of both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.
With eight teams remaining in contention for continental glory, the quarterfinal matches are set to commence this weekend, sparking excitement among South African football enthusiasts. Mamelodi Sundowns, alongside other top African clubs, will engage in intense battles to secure a coveted spot in the semi-finals.
The quarterfinal clashes kick off on Friday, March 29, with Simba SC facing off against Al Ahly at the Benjamin Mkaba Stadium. The action continues on Saturday, March 30, as Yanga SC takes on Sundowns at the same venue.
Meanwhile, TP Mazembe will battle Petro de Luanda, while Esperance de Tunis will host ASEC Mimosas on the same day, adding to the anticipation surrounding the upcoming fixtures.
In a statement released on Thursday, CAF outlined the format for the finals of the 2023/24 season of both the Champions League and Confederation Cup. The final matches will be contested over two legs, with each team hosting one leg in May 2024.
“The First Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will be played on Sunday, May 12, 2024. The Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup will be played the following weekend, Sunday, May 19, 2024,” announced CAF.
“The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final First Leg will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2024. The Second Leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League Final is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024.”
