“I’ve not been celebrated by Ghanaians as I should have been” – Dreams FC boss Karim Zito

Dreams FC coach Karim Zito expresses his sentiment of being undervalued despite his remarkable contributions to both club and country.

Zito’s coaching prowess has seen Dreams FC reach the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, inching closer to a historic semi-final after a memorable 2-1 victory against Stade Malien in the first leg of their knockout phase.

The former Asante Kotoko star also played a pivotal role in Ghana’s victories at the WAFU Zone B tournament in Benin in 2020 and the CAF Under-20 AFCON in Mauritania in 2021.

Despite these achievements, Zito feels his efforts have not garnered the recognition they deserve. In response to whether he believes he’s been celebrated adequately, he stated: “You are 100 right. I’ve not been celebrated because I am not among the ‘rough’ ones. I am not interested in blowing my own horn. It is the job we’re doing for Ghana.”

Zito emphasizes his satisfaction with his own self-assessment and modest approach, stating, “People are just refusing to see or accept the good job that we’re doing. But I am very satisfied with my own self. I don’t show off neither do I want to be noticed in public engagements.”

The coach’s humility extends to public appearances, where he prefers to maintain a low profile.

“Sometimes, I even hide my identity when I am in public. This is the way I am. So it’s true that  I’ve not been celebrated as I should have been. Those who have not gotten to my level are even well known than me.”

Despite his understated approach, Zito remains dedicated to his work, steering Dreams FC ambitiously through the CAF Confederation Cup, making them the sole Ghanaian club in the 2023-24 Africa inter-club competition following Medeama’s exit from the CAF Champions League.
