Former Ghana midfielder Solar Ayew shares that the Ayew family remains unperturbed by the omission of captain Andre Ayew from the Black Stars squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic next month.
Despite a commendable season with La Havre in the French Ligue 1, the 34-year-old was left out of Otto Addo’s 26-man squad for the crucial matches.
Ayew’s impactful role in aiding Le Havre’s escape from relegation, coupled with his five goals in 19 Ligue 1 appearances, earned him recognition as the top-scoring Ghanaian in the league.
In an interview with Asempa FM, Solar Ayew, uncle to Jordan and Andre Ayew, expressed that while the exclusion of Andre may surprise many, it’s deemed normal within the Ayew family given his current form.
“We’ve taken Andre Ayew’s omission from the Black Stars squad normally. He was earning invites when he was unattached, so his omission will surprise not only me but everyone because he is at the top of his game now. This is normal for the Ayew family,” Solar Ayew remarked.
He further added, “He has picked up his form, so maybe the coach has his reasons for not including him. I have been in the game for long, and I don’t think this is the normal thing to do.”
Meanwhile, the Black Stars will commence preparation on Thursday for the upcoming matches against Mali and the Central African Republic.
