Former Ghana captain Stephen Appiah has expressed his confidence in Black Stars defender Alexander Djiku’s potential to elevate his performance under the guidance of Jose Mourinho at Fenerbahce.

Djiku will have the opportunity to play under the legendary Portuguese manager, who recently took over as head coach of the Turkish giants following his departure from AS Roma.

In response to Mourinho’s appointment at his former club, Appiah conveyed his optimism for Djiku’s development under Mourinho.

Appiah emphasized Mourinho’s successful track record with African players, such as Didier Drogba, Solomon Kalou, Michael Essien, and Mikel Obi.

“As you rightly said, Jose Mourinho has been very good with African players, and I think everyone he’s worked with proves themselves, including Didier Drogba, Solomon Kalou, Michael Essien, Mikel Obi, and many others,” Appiah told Responsible Gambling.

“We have Djiku, who has won the hearts of the fans with his demeanor and approach to the game. I hope that with Mourinho’s arrival, he will be able to take his game to the next level.”

Stephen Appiah himself made over 60 league appearances for Fenerbahce between 2005 and 2008. During his tenure with the Turkish giants, the former Ghana captain secured two titles: the 2006/07 Turkish Super League and the 2007 Turkish Super Cup.
