2026 World Cup Q: “Ghana showed Mali too much respect in the first half” – Laryea Kingston

Former Ghanaian footballer Laryea Kingston believes the Black Stars displayed excessive deference to Mali in their first-half performance during their matchday three encounter in the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers.

Kingston’s observation came after Ghana trailed 1-0 at halftime, with Mali’s Komary Doubmia finding the net in the 45th minute.

However, a spirited second-half effort saw Ghana turn the tide, with goals from Ernest Nuamah and Jordan Ayew securing a crucial victory.

“We showed Mali too much respect in the first half, but we rectified that in the second,” Kingston remarked on GTV Sports Plus.

He highlighted the assertiveness of players like Partey, emphasizing Ghana’s potential to challenge any opponent.

“Partey and other players were making runs into the Malian box. I’ve always said that Ghana has the players to challenge any team.

Credit was given to Ayew and Nuamah for their pivotal goals, underscoring the significance of their contributions to the team.

“Credit to Jordan Ayew for his goal and Ernest Nuamah’s strike, which were both vital for us. It was a good game, and Otto Addo has done a great job,” he added.

Ghana’s triumph propels them to the second spot in Group I with six points, level with Comoros but trailing on goal difference. This win marks Ghana’s first away victory since 2022.

The Black Stars now focus on their upcoming match against the Central African Republic on June 10 at the Baba Yara Stadium as they pursue qualification for the 2026 World Cup hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
