Real Tamale United (RTU) has issued a statement apologizing to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and their supporters for fielding unregistered players in their recent league game against Dreams FC in Dawu.
The club admitted to using players who were not registered for the match, which ended in an 8-1 thrashing for RTU.
The club’s management had taken in Division Two players to play the match after their registered players boycotted the game due to six months of unpaid salaries. The move was met with strong disapproval from Dreams FC, who filed a protest with the GFA.
RTU’s captain and team manager also expressed their concerns about the situation, stating that the club did not use the right players. The Dawu-based club played the match under protest, and RTU has since responded to the GFA’s charge.
In their statement, RTU insisted that their actions were not deliberate and were not intended to ridicule Ghana football. The club acknowledged that they are going through difficult times, including their potential exit from the Premier League, and appealed for mercy and sympathy from the public and the GFA as they strive to rebuild their team.
“We regret this incident and assure that it will never happen again,” the statement read. “The club is sorry.”
RTU now faces Great Olympics in their final game on Sunday, and it will be interesting to see which players they bring on board for the match.
