Stop using State for your personal benefits- Sports Minister to National Amputee team

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif has cautioned national teams against using state-intended glory for their personal benefits.

He said this when Ghana’s national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, presented their African Amputee Football Cup Of Nations trophy to him at the Ministry of Youth And Sports.

The caution comes after some prominent individuals and organizations made some donations to the team for winning gold in Egypt after their return to Ghana, including former President John Mahama, who donated ten thousand dollars to the team.

“So when you come, after the successes and there is anything, the first point of call should be this office. We’ll not tolerate you using the state property for your personal benefits, “the minister said as quoted by Starrfm.com.gh.

The minister then demanded that the team account for all the donations made to them because it’s belongs to the state and not the team.

“We’ve seen that you have received a lot of donations, which is good for us. You should account for it because it’s for the state and not for you,” he added.

He assured that the government would compliment the team after his office receives the accounts from the team.
Captain of the side, Richard Arthur, in response, apologized on behalf of the team.
