Ghana’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku delighted to sign permanently with Leicester

Ghanaian winger Abdul Fatawu Issahaku has expressed his delight after securing a permanent transfer to Leicester City. Issahaku, who has signed a five-year contract with the Foxes, is now focused on the upcoming season.

The Football Club received full league and international clearance for the transfer, effective from July 1, after triggering an option to buy the player from Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon.

The 20-year-old Ghana international impressed during his loan spell at King Power Stadium last season, helping Leicester City win the Sky Bet Championship title and secure promotion to the Premier League. Issahaku made 43 appearances for the Foxes in all competitions, scoring seven goals, including his first career hat-trick in a 5-0 win against Southampton on Filbert Way, quickly becoming a fan favorite.

“I feel amazing,” Issahaku declared. “It’s good to be back and I’m just focused again for next season. The Premier League is a new challenge and I’m motivated to succeed alongside the team. I can’t wait to see my teammates again; they’re like family now.”

His dribbling skills, pace, attacking flair, and defensive work ethic made him a standout player. The £14 million transfer was expected to be Leicester’s first summer signing, with confirmation coming from Sporting’s manager in May. Issahaku himself had recently hinted at the move on social media.

However, Fatawu becomes the fourth summer arrival for manager Steve Cooper, following the signings of Bobby De Cordova-Reid, Michael Golding, and Caleb Okoli. Wilfred Ndidi’s recent contract renewal further bolsters the squad as the new Premier League season approaches in five weeks.

Fatawu adds significant firepower to the attack, contributing seven goals and 13 assists last season. He peaked towards the end, delivering a standout performance with a hat-trick in the 5-0 thrashing of Southampton, a key moment in City’s title run.

He will reunite with his Leicester City teammates as they prepare for the Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, August 19.
