“The additions they’ve made make me extremely happy” – Opoku Nti praises Asante Kotoko’s recruitment

Former Asante Kotoko player and General Manager, Samuel Opoku Nti, has expressed his admiration for the club’s recent recruitment efforts, stating that he would be surprised if they don’t win the league next season.

Following a disappointing season where the Porcupine Warriors failed to secure the championship, the club underwent a significant overhaul, releasing over 20 players due to what was deemed poor performance.

However, Kotoko has been rebuilding, adding eleven new players in an effort to assemble a formidable squad for the upcoming campaign.

In an interview with Akoma FM, Opoku Nti, who scored the goal that secured Kotoko’s last CAF Champions League title in 1983, shared his thoughts on the club’s prospects.

“I will be shocked if they (Kotoko) don’t win the league, given the team they have assembled,” Nti said. “These days, both individual talent and teamwork are crucial. Sometimes the coach doesn’t need to give orders; you need players who are mature enough to step up and support the team when called upon, and I think that’s what the current Kotoko team has.

“The additions Kotoko has made make me extremely happy, and if this pattern keeps up, it will be a turning point. Considering Kotoko’s rivals, I’d be shocked if Kotoko do not win the league.”

Asante Kotoko began their preseason in Kumasi, engaging in friendly matches and training sessions. They have now moved their preparations to Cape Coast, where they will continue to refine their squad.

The team is set to face Medeama SC in a ceremonial friendly at the new TNA Stadium on Friday, August 16.
