Ghana coach Otto Addo remains confident about the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite their disappointing 1-0 defeat to Angola in the opening match of the qualifiers.
The loss, which came after a late goal by Angola’s Felicio Joao Milson, puts Ghana in a challenging position, with Angola and Sudan leading the group after their respective victories. To secure qualification for the tournament in Morocco, Ghana must now finish among the top two teams in Group F.
Despite the early setback, Addo took encouragement from the Black Stars’ performance in the second half of the match.
“The second half makes me very confident we can qualify,” Addo said. “The good thing is that it’s all in our hands because we still have to face all the teams in the group.”
Ghana’s next fixture is a crucial clash against Niger, and a strong showing will be vital for their AFCON qualification hopes. The match will take place on September 9 in Berkane, Morocco, where the Black Stars will aim to get their campaign back on track.
