Black Stars coach Otto Addo has defended defender Abdul Mumin following his costly mistake that led to Angola’s late 1-0 victory at the Baba Yara Stadium.
Ghana’s hopes of extending their unbeaten streak in Kumasi were dashed after Joao Milson capitalized on Mumin’s poor clearance to secure a dramatic win for Angola.
While acknowledging the crucial error, Addo emphasized that Mumin’s overall performance was commendable.
“We made some mistakes so it’s not only him,” Addo said. “The pitch wasn’t in good condition. Besides the mistake, he had a really good game. He played a lot of passes in between the lines and won many duels. He is young and will surely develop.”
This defeat marks the end of Ghana’s 24-year unbeaten run at the Baba Yara Stadium, a venue previously seen as a fortress for the Black Stars.
Ghana will now focus on their upcoming match against Niger in Morocco on Monday, September 9, 2024, as they aim to rebound from this setback.
