2024/25 Ghana Premier League Preview: Gold Stars and Legon Cities set for tense showdown at Dun’s Park

The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season kicks off with an exciting match between Bibiani Gold Stars and Legon Cities at Dun’s Park on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams are eager to secure a strong start in what is anticipated to be a fiercely competitive campaign.

Survival Battle Looms Large

Last season, both Bibiani Gold Stars and Legon Cities found themselves entangled in the fight for survival. Gold Stars narrowly avoided relegation, finishing 11th with just a three-point cushion above the drop zone. Legon Cities, on the other hand, endured an even closer call, ending their season in 13th place, only one point clear of relegation. With memories of that difficult campaign fresh in their minds, both sides are determined to steer clear of danger this time around.

Gold Stars Hold the Advantage

Gold Stars come into this clash with a psychological edge, having remained unbeaten in their last six encounters against Legon Cities. Their previous meeting at Dun’s Park ended in a commanding 4-2 victory for Gold Stars, while the reverse fixture saw the two teams settle for a 1-1 draw. This unbeaten run since Gold Stars’ promotion gives them a boost of confidence heading into Sunday’s opener.

Legon Cities Seeking Redemption

Despite Gold Stars’ dominance, Legon Cities will be looking to break their winless streak against the Bibiani-based club. A victory in this opening match could provide the momentum needed to fuel a stronger performance throughout the season, giving them an opportunity to improve on last season’s struggles.

High Stakes for Both Teams

With both sides recognizing the importance of a good start to the campaign, Sunday’s encounter promises to be a tense and competitive affair. Gold Stars will aim to extend their unbeaten run against the Royals, while Legon Cities are determined to rewrite the script and kick off their season with a morale-boosting win.

Kickoff: 15:00 GMT (3:00 pm local time)
Venue: Dun’s Park, Bibiani
