Dreams FC head coach Abdul Karim Zito has hailed his team’s goalless draw against FC Samartex as a positive result, especially given that they played the final 18 minutes with ten men.
The match, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, was the opening game of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season for both teams.
Dreams FC started strong, with Samartex goalkeeper Kofi Baah making a crucial early save from a set-piece just outside the penalty area. Despite several attempts from both sides, the first half ended in a stalemate.
After the break, Samartex, the reigning champions, looked more dangerous and created numerous opportunities to break the deadlock. However, Dreams FC’s Collins Boah received a second yellow card in the 72nd minute, earning the first red card of the season and reducing his team to ten men.
Reflecting on the match, Zito acknowledged the difficulty of playing with a numerical disadvantage but was pleased with his team’s fighting spirit.
“In some ways, I will say it is a fair result because along the line we ran short of one man. We were struggling to make it at least a draw,” Zito said. “But before then, it was a well-fought battle. To me, they did well even though we wanted to win.”
Dreams FC showed resilience, securing a hard-earned point to kick off their campaign.
