Dreams FC Head Coach Abdul Karim Zito believes the goalless draw against FC Samartex was a solid result, especially considering his team was reduced to ten men for the final 18 minutes of the match.
The game, which took place at the Accra Sports Stadium, marked the opening fixture of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League for both teams. Samartex started strong, with goalkeeper Kofi Baah making an early save from a set-piece just outside the box, deflecting the ball out for a corner.
Despite both sides pushing for a breakthrough, the first half ended with no goals. After halftime, Dreams FC, the reigning champions, began to take control and created several chances.
However, the momentum shifted in the 72nd minute when midfielder Collins Boah received his second yellow card and was sent off. With Dreams FC down to ten players, they had to focus on defending.
“In some ways, I will say it is a fair result because along the line we ran short of one man. We were struggling to make it at least a draw,” Zito said. “But before then, it was a well-fought battle. To me, they did well, even though we wanted to win.”
