Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has voiced his frustration after Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Municipal Stadium in Berkane, Morocco.
Ghana took the lead in the 44th minute when Stade Rennais defender Alidu Seidu scored a powerful strike, assisted by West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus, breaking through Niger’s sturdy defense. However, Niger responded late in the match, with Oumar Sako equalizing in the 81st minute following a well-placed assist from Moussa Kassa Moudou.
Despite controlling much of the game, the Black Stars were unable to find a second goal, leaving them winless after two qualifiers.
Reacting to the draw, Addo expressed his disappointment: “Definitely not, I am not satisfied at all. I am really disappointed, to be honest. We talked and trained on set pieces, we discussed situations that could happen, but the way we defended in the last 10 minutes was really, really bad. I think in general we had the game under control. We allowed some counter situations where we didn’t close the gaps well, and even after taking the lead, things should have been easier.”
Ghana now faces increased pressure as they prepare for a crucial double-header against Sudan, coached by former Black Stars boss Kwesi Appiah, in their upcoming Group F qualifiers. The team will be looking to turn their campaign around and secure a win.
