Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has voiced his profound frustration following Ghana’s recent 1-1 draw with Niger in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Addo’s disappointment centered on the team’s defensive errors, which allowed Niger to equalize despite Ghana’s earlier lead.
Reflecting on the game, Addo criticized the team’s defensive performance, particularly highlighting the ease with which they conceded goals in recent matches.
“We had a quite cheap goal against Angola and now again, I am just really, really disappointed,” Addo stated. “We have to be on our toes to defend these situations better.”
The Ghanaian coach expressed his dismay over the recurring defensive issues, noting that the team had specifically trained to handle such situations. “I don’t know what to say more because I am really, really disappointed. We talked too much, we trained exactly in this kind of situation, and I am really disappointed to see the team concede a goal like this.”
The draw with Niger serves as a significant wake-up call for the Black Stars, who now face an uphill battle to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON.
