Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu has highlighted the significance of the upcoming 2024/25 season for him as he embarks on his second year with AS Monaco, following injury setbacks in his first season.

Salisu spent much of last season sidelined but made a strong comeback towards the end, playing a key role in helping Monaco secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League. Now fully fit, the 25-year-old is gearing up for his Champions League debut when Monaco takes on Barcelona on Wednesday.

Reflecting on his journey so far, the former Southampton player is determined to make his mark this season. “We started good as a team and then I started good as an individual. I’m happy for this, because I arrived here injured and it was complicated,” Salisu told Flashscore. “This is my first full season, and I started pre-season with the team. I feel this is an important season for me, so I need to get ready.”

Salisu also praised the positive atmosphere within the squad. “There’s good spirit in the camp. The boys have good energy in training. We try to fight every game and go game by game because it’s an important season. We have a lot of games coming, so I think we need to go game by game. I think we are in good shape,” he added.

With his sights set on contributing both domestically and in Europe, Salisu’s focus is clear as he prepares for this crucial campaign.
