Barcelona and Manchester City set to compete for Austrian-Ghanaian defender Samson Baidoo

Barcelona have set their sights on another emerging talent from the Austrian football scene, closely monitoring 20-year-old centre-back Samson Baidoo from RB Salzburg.

The Catalan giants are known for their focus on young talents, and Baidoo is the latest to catch their attention as they plan for the future of their defensive lineup.

Baidoo, who has made significant strides from the youth setup to the senior team at Salzburg, has already featured in nine of their ten matches this season, playing a full ninety minutes in each game. Standing at 1.9 meters tall, Baidoo is renowned for his commanding presence on the field and his excellent ball control, attributes that have attracted interest from several top European clubs.

Barcelona are not alone in their pursuit of the talented defender. Premier League champions Manchester City have been tracking Baidoo for over 18 months, with Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund, and Inter Milan also vying for his signature.

Baidoo, who has earned one cap for Austria’s national team, remains under contract with RB Salzburg until 2027. While his market value is currently estimated at €8 million, the competition for his transfer could drive up the final fee.

Barcelona’s interest in Baidoo comes as they look to strengthen their backline. With veteran defender Inigo Martinez’s contract set to expire in 2025 and uncertainty surrounding Ronald Araujo’s future at the club, Baidoo represents a potential long-term solution for the Blaugrana.

Despite his involvement with Austria’s national team, Baidoo’s Ghanaian heritage leaves the door open for a potential switch to represent the Black Stars in the future.
