The Ghana U-20 team, known as the Black Satellites, earned a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Benin in their opening match of the WAFU B U-20 Cup of Nations.
In today’s Group A encounter, both teams were eager to kick off their campaigns on a high note, but neither managed to secure all three points.
Ghana struck first with a goal from forward Jerry Afriyie, giving the Black Satellites an early lead. However, Benin fought back, with Modeste Konoudji and Gabriel Moulero scoring to overturn the result and give Benin a 2-1 lead by halftime.
The second half saw both teams pushing to dominate the match. Despite trailing for most of the game, the Black Satellites showed resilience and found an equalizer late in the contest when Afriyie converted a penalty, netting his second goal to secure a 2-2 draw.
With this result, the Ghana U-20 team will view it as a crucial point gained as they shift their focus to their next match against Niger U-20 on Sunday, October 20. The team remains hopeful of advancing in the tournament with their determined performance.
