Ghana head coach Otto Addo has vowed not to give up on the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite a disappointing run of results in their doubleheader against Sudan.
After a 0-0 draw in the first leg and a 2-0 defeat in the second, Ghana’s qualification hopes hang in the balance. However, Addo remains resolute in his determination to keep their campaign alive.
“It’s not over yet. Mathematically, there’s still a chance, and we will do everything in our hands to keep this chance alive,” he stated in an interview with the Ghana FA media team.
Reflecting on the team’s performance, Addo stressed the importance of improving their overall approach, especially in winning crucial home games and maintaining balance in both defense and attack.
“When I reflect, it’s not just about this game, but our general approach. You have to win your home games. The passion and discipline were there, defensively and offensively, but we just didn’t execute,” he explained.
Despite the setbacks, Addo believes that Ghana was deserving of better outcomes, particularly in their clashes against Angola and Sudan.
“We definitely deserved to win against Angola, and even the last match against Sudan,” he remarked, noting that tactical issues contributed to the results.
With the Black Stars now sitting third in Group F with only two points, five points behind second-placed Sudan and seven behind leaders Angola, their 2025 AFCON qualification campaign is at a critical juncture. Still, Otto Addo and his squad are focused on turning things around as they fight to secure their spot in the tournament.
