Asante Kotoko midfielder Emmanuel Antwi has received his first call-up to the Ghana national team for the final rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The 24-year-old, who joined Kotoko from Great Olympics at the start of the 2024-25 season, has been a standout performer in the Ghana Premier League, making nine appearances and scoring once. His impressive form has earned him a spot in head coach Otto Addo’s squad, marking a significant step in his career.

Antwi’s inclusion highlights his rapid rise and places him among the few home-based players selected for the crucial qualifiers. He joins FC Samartex 1996 defender Isaac Afful and Nations FC captain Razak Simpson as the only domestic league representatives in the 23-man squad.

Ghana faces a tough challenge in the final qualifiers, starting with a match against Angola at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Friday, November 15, 2024. The team will then return home to play Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.

Currently third in Group F with two points from four matches, Ghana must win both games and hope Sudan falters in their remaining fixtures to secure a place in the 2025 AFCON in Morocco. The pressure is mounting as the Black Stars aim for redemption in what has been a challenging qualifying campaign.
