St Johnstone manager Simo Valakari has confirmed that the club will not be moving forward with the signing of Ghanaian trialist Dennis Korsah, citing their current depth at left-back as the primary reason.
The four-time Ghana international joined St Johnstone for a trial at McDiarmid Park in late October, arranged by former manager Craig Levein. However, the recent addition of experienced left-back Barry Douglas, who has played for clubs such as Dundee United, Lech Poznań, and Leeds United, has closed the door on Korsah’s potential move.
Valakari stated that, barring an emergency, the signing of Douglas will be St Johnstone’s final free-agent acquisition before the January transfer window. The manager believes the club has enough options at left-back with both Douglas and Andre Raymond in the squad.
“We now have Barry (Douglas) and Andre (Raymond), and any more players in that position would make us too heavy,” Valakari explained, as reported by The Courier. “Dennis will find a team, but it wasn’t the right time for us. We’re not looking to add more players unless it’s an emergency situation.”
Korsah, who left Ghanaian giants Accra Hearts of Oak at the start of the 2024/25 season after his contract expired, played a key role in the club’s successes, including their FA Cup and President’s Cup victories in his debut season following his move from Cape Coast Ebusua Dwarfs.
